Earthmate App Reviews

Dont update. Its unstable.

Not sure what they did to the Bluetooth programming but Im having all kinds of new issues with BT.

Was good until this update.

Having a bug where zooming in and out on aerial view causes the app to crash.

Crashes

App crashes when using the zoom feature on map. App is useless to me until this bug is fixed. Otherwise, it looks like it will be a good app once the problem is fixed.

Crashes

New update crashes when zooming in/out. Please fix as i have a trip in a week. Previously worked great.

One feature missing

I have the Delorme InReach SE and this app allows you to access most features of the device. The one that is very conspicuously missing is the ability to send "preset" messages. These are 3 messages that you can send to a predefined list of recipients and do not count against your plan. I guess Delorme wants to discourage the use of this feature and cause you to send messages that count against your plan. It is very handy to be able to keep the InReach tucked away in a safe location and just send everything using the phone, but if you want to use preset messages you have to dig it out and use the device directly. Delorme: please step up and add this feature.

Great app for hiking even without inReach

I had an inReach for about a year and sold it due to lack of use. Along with the inReach came a subscription to Earthmate. I liked Earthmate so much that I subscribed to Earthmate separately after returning my inReach. It’s great for plotting hike routes or downloading ones prepared by others. Then, you have a subscription to a variety of North American maps, including USGS quads — you download just the maps you need for the hike or other travel you are taking. Others can follow you progress, you can track and save your own progress. My iPhone is my only outdoor navigation device (I do keep a map and compass for backup). Much lighter and smaller than a dedicated GPS device. Overall, I get great value. It’s about $30 for the app and the first year service, then renew service for about $15 a year.
