This app paired with my InReach is a gamechanger. The new reality that I send and receive text messages ANYWHERE is just starting to sink in. And DeLorme made so many smart decisions with this app. Like a local cache of the map and simple Bluetooth pairing. Bottom line....RIP SPOT.

Seems to work great so far. Pairing is very straight forward and seems to work well with the iPhone. Cant wait to try it out in some more remote places in AK.

I cant expand a category of maps after going to the data management page. It inconveniently crashes. Otherwise a solid set of improvements.

I bought the Delorme Inreach receiver, downloaded this app, and excitedly started to set it up. Unfortunately, at that point I discovered two deal-breakers: a 1-year subscription service is required, and you cant cancel the same way you signed up. (You have to call and presumably go through a salesweasel trying to convince you not to cancel). I just want to use this three or four times a year. A yearly subscription makes no sense. And if I sign up for something on the web, I ought to be able to discontinue that service via the web as well. Disappointed, I returned the Inreach for a full refund and deleted this app.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD this app. Its free to download, but then - you have to purchase the InReach device, and, you must call them on the phone to cancel, and, they badger you constantly - trying to sell you on keeping the device - making the entire process a long and drawn-out process. Save yourself the time and aggravation …… P.S. You have to indicate at least one (1) star to even leave the truth about the application .......

Finally a way to keep my family in touch with me when I fly cross country. Application worked well. I wish the plans were more affordable. Ten bucks per month is affordable but for that I would expect tracking too. As it is, the system is fine for that occasional message but will use Flight Aware for tracking.

Ive been playing with my new inReach satellite communicator and I love it. Sadly I think the app needs some work. First, if I turn off my iPhone while a message is sending, the message will be sent again when the app is opened again. This can be a very expensive issue in turns of either duplicate messages being sent, or battery life. The second issue is with the social networking feature. Unlike MapShare, with shows both in your message thread AND your address book, Twitter and Facebook only appear in the message threads. That means you cant send a new message to both Twitter and Facebook. Also, sending a message to my spouse, a friend, MapShare, and Twitter would require sending two satellite messages instead of one. Otherwise the app is fairly clean and simple. The Maps could really use a POI search feature but otherwise the interface is clean and simple.

This does everything it claims to except one major thing. It does not use the inreach GPS data when the phone is in airplane mode. Being able to put the phone in airplane mode with just Bluetooth on would give it much better battery life, this is a published feature. I have contacted customer support and say they are aware of the problem, but still havent fixed it after several months. This should be a priority for the company since are not getting what we were told we were paying for. Id give it five stars if that part worked, but it only get three until then.

The past 12 years I have worked in remote locations as a guide and photographer, from the deepest canyons in the world to the far north polar regions. I have used satellite phones, Spot devices and PLBs(personal Locater Beacons) and now the DeLorme In-Reach with the Earthmate App. The DeLorme paired with the In-Reach is all I need and it does everything it claims too. I can quickly send and receive communication via emails or phone numbers in my phone, track my route, mark points, and lastly but most importantly I can still call for an SOS if needed. It is like a phone, GPS and Safety beacon all in one! In my opinion the Iridium satellite network is much more reliable than the Globalstar that the spot device runs on. Loving Earthmate so far.

Good app. Maps are great! They take forever to download, so keep that in mind. Wish I could somehow download them from a computer and then put on phone, but once you have the maps youre golden. Theyre very useful on the trail. I wish that the tracking feature measured the distance between one point to the next, and then the total distance covered in a trip. I understand that this wouldnt be an accurate reading for say windy roads, but it gives a good idea for me to look at and see how far Ive gone. Better than just using the measurement scale anyways. The mph feature is cool.

This app is made only to work with the Delorme InReach Device, sold separately. I have the InReach SE. Together the app and devise are amazing. The InReach SE can be used as a stand alone device, not reliant on this app, but the app nicely enhances the user experience. The reason I purchased the SE was for the world wide connection to emergency rescue for hiking. When I compared it to weaker options like the Spot, it was simply a FAR better choice for safety. When compared to quality Personal Locator Beacons, the two way texting was the winning factor for the InReach SE. I have two young kids that would never find their way out of the woods if something happened to me. This app and device would allow them to easily push an SOS button on the SE or app and their location and a distress message will immediately be received by a global rescue network that will send out a rescue team. Cannot imagine taking them into the wilderness without it. Why take the risk when I dont have to? The app does everything described very well. 5 Star. Adding in a GPS style trip planner on top of the tracking would be a feature I would like to see in the future. Adding integration with the iPhone compass would be a nice feature. It seems this could also become a great GPS device with little software work and no additional hardware. I would like to be able to enter a destination and simply see a line to follow and a compass direction to point at.

Excellent application; I always use it when I fly in my airplane and keeps family updated on my whereabouts. Also we cruise a lot in the San Juan and Gulf Islands where cell coverage is sketchy or very $$$$ when roaming in Canada; Love that I do not need to rely on cell coverage!!! Truly an essential tool for active folks!!

Install went great and after some fiddling we took the Inreach explorer and ipad for a ride. The app tracked us on the topo maps very well here in the Sacramento area. The main problem was there were no bread crumbs ..... am I missing something?. . Am rating a 2 because this is something we need. .

I use this device and app in yellowstone and it has performed flawlessly for two years now. Why do idiots go hiking without a device and service like this? I also love the fact that the device can be used with other third party apps like MotionX GPS. I still turn on track datapoints every 15-30 mins. I keep a back up battery for my iPad and extra AA lithium batteries in my pack at all times. A NeverLost for your person.

Maps lost street names and other features. iPad library management is broken. Please QA!!

Downloaded this app to complement the inreach SE GPS device which requires monthly subscription. After this update, neither the data management or map library function. After waiting 20 minutes on hold with customer support, I was told there are no known issues with this update and that if Im having a problem, I should uninstall and reinstall the app. For a rather expensive system, this should function better.

No access to data management, map library or previously downloaded maps. This version is pretty much useless. After the price hike on the subscription service and the broken app which sold me on the device I am seriously disappointed with my purchase this last month or so. Reconsider if its not too late. Oh yeah, they also lost my mail in rebate and wont respond to my inquires. Now Im really mad...

I dont have much to say - I use this app with marine charts and topo maps and my DeLorme inReach device. If you buy an inReach - you use this app. I basically am submitting this review to "erase" my 1 star review from the last version where they broke the app.

I have an iPhone 5c. I downloaded Earthmate with the understanding that I have to pair inReach with my device. I followed the instruction provided, and nothing happened. I dont know how to turn off inReach, nor does the LED flash. Please explain better.
